Why Therapy?

The ultimate goal of therapy is to help you live a wholehearted life, rooted in the deepest ground of your being.

If you are facing a life crisis, a profound loss, a time of transition, or are feeling stuck, disheartened or overwhelmed by life's challenges, it can be helpful to have the support of a therapist.  If you are struggling with stress, anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, relationship issues, chronic pain, or questioning your life's direction, therapy can help.

My goal is to create a safe, compassionate space for you to feel understood.  My approach is client-centered and non-judgmental.

I draw on a number of modalities in my work, using mindfulness tools, strengths-based therapy, guided imagery, CBT, meditation, and stress-reduction tools among others.  I bring a trauma-sensitive approach to my work.

Psychotherapy

There are times in our lives when we benefit from exploring our thoughts, emotions, and past experiences in order to discover the ways they influence our choices and relationships today.

With the support of a skilled, compassionate, attuned therapist, you'll be invited to talk about your life -- your challenges and concerns.  I will listen deeply with confidence in your ability to gain insight into old patterns and to move into new ways of being and relating in the world.

Psychotherapy provides a safe, nonjudgmental, sacred space in which to reclaim one's wisdom and resources toward creating a more meaningful, fulfilling and authentic life.

I draw on a number of modalities in my work, using mindfulness tools, strengths-based assessments, guided imagery, meditation and stress-reduction tools among others. I bring a trauma-sensitive approach to my work.

Mindful Forest Walks

Forest walking offers a chance to step back from the cares of everyday life and reset through simply taking the time to be in nature.  Taking a guided walk in a forest environment helps us access the healing power of nature.

Mindful forest walks help us slow down, ground, center and connect with ourselves in a way that unwinds the cumulative stresses of life.  Through deep attention to our surroundings, we connect more easily to the wisdom within.

Google "forest bathing," and you can read plenty of studies that show improvements in a number of areas, such as: increasing sleep quality; reducing blood pressure; raising energy levels; improving mood; boosting the immune system and accelerating healing.  To say it in a nutshell, forest walks create lasting benefits for the body, mind and heart.

I completed teacher training with the Centre for Mindfulness Studies in Toronto.  I offer mindful forest walks for individuals and groups year-round.  No matter the season, mindful forest walks offer people a chance to experience forest medicine, or the healing power of nature.

Energy Therapy

I am a graduate of the Barbara Brennan School of Healing, which trains healers to work with the human energy field or aura that surrounds and interpenetrates the physical body. It is directly associated with a person’s physical, emotional, mental and/or spiritual health. Energy healers work with the body’s innate healing capacity to improve emotional, physical and spiritual wellbeing.  During a session, the therapist places her hands on or above the chakras and other parts of the body that may need support. Energy therapists learn techniques to dissolve energy blocks or to repair the energy field and chakras in order to return the body to balance.

Energy work can provide relief from stress, emotional issues, depression, physical ailments and spiritual distress.  Energy healing can soothe trauma, replenish reserves, and build resilience and wellbeing.  Energy work can support you to feel more grounded, and connected to your deeper longings and gifts.

Grief Therapy

Whether you are grieving the death of someone close to you, or grieving another type of loss (eg a relationship breakup, caring for a parent with dementia, facing a job loss or retirement, or losses associated with an illness or accident), you may find yourself struggling to adjust.

Though grief is a normal, natural and necessary process, it is often intense and disorienting.  There is no right way to grieve, however, a grief counselor can help you understand what to expect in grief and can offer a stable, safe environment in which to find ground beneath your feet again.  In the case of the loss of a loved one, you will be invited to share memories, talk about the effect of grief in your life, and understand more about how the loss has changed your relationship with yourself and others, as well as your needs and longings going forward.  Discussing your unique circumstances and particular challenges helps to make sense of your feelings and thoughts, develop coping strategies, and build resilience.

Ultimately, grief counselling helps you to integrate the loss, reconnect with important values, and to create new purposes following the loss of your loved one.

How I Work with Clients

It is my aim to work with you so you feel empowered to thrive in your life.  In a supportive, non-judgmental space, clients develop the insight, skills and tools to heal, overcome obstacles and create positive change.

My approach is person-centred, collaborative and trauma-informed. I bring empathy and compassion to each client.  I believe each person has a wealth of wisdom and inner resources, though these may sometimes be hidden deep inside in response to challenging life circumstances.  I offer deep listening, encouragement and support so that you can gain perspective on your current situation, and develop greater self-acceptance and awareness of the patterns that may be holding you back.

You'll identify your goals, and we will create a plan to evaluate and work toward your goals as we work together.  Each person is unique: you may choose to commit to therapy for a few sessions, or longer process.

My Background

My first priority is to understand your goals, and adapt tools strategies to meet your needs.   In other words, my approach is person-centred and collaborative.  My role is to help you access inner and outer resources to meet the challenge at hand.  The essence of my role is to create a compassionate space, and offer deep listening so that you are empowered to gain insight, break unhelpful patterns, and find ways to bring more of who you are to the world.   I am a registered member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario and have had a private practice as a psychotherapist and energy healer for over 25 years.

Read on for a brief summary of my training and work path....

I began my career after graduating from the Barbara Brennan School of Healing (BBSH) in 1993.  BBSH trains therapists to work with the energy field or aura, and to understand how challenges in early life can affect ones physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health.

I later received my Master’s of Divinity from U of T in 2008 and went on to additional studies through the Canadian Association of Spiritual Care, and to my work as a Spiritual Care Practitioner in a variety of hospital settings for 10 years.

Since 2015, I have added a focus on grief counseling, supporting clients to move forward after significant loss.  I am a graduate of the teacher training program offered by the Centre for Mindfulness Studies in Toronto.  I offer healing and meditation retreats for those who are looking to deepen their healing and spiritual practices.

Getting Started

Whether you are a first-time therapy client, or have worked with a therapist before, I recommend we check-in first with each other with a telephone call.

I offer an initial 20-minute free telephone consultation, during which you can outline your key concerns, hopes, and goals for therapy.  I will also answer any questions you have about my approach, and you can decide whether you are ready to schedule an appointment.

Occasionally, a client’s goals are outside the scope of my practice -- In those cases, I refer clients to other practitioners who have the particular expertise they need.
